Jill and her husband Jeff are both in their early forties, happily married with three children, 12, 10, and 6 years old. They are both hardworking parents, Jill an elementary school teacher, and Jeff the Manager at a department store. Upon seeking medical attention for pain in her lower leg, Jill discovered that she has a tumor in her tibia. While awaiting the results from her biopsy, Jeff underwent a colonoscopy and discovered that he has Stage 4, inoperable, rectal cancer which has already spread to his lymph nodes and liver. Jeff has been given a prognosis of two years, with treatment (radiation and chemotherapy for a minimum of 9 months). Three days later, Jill received her biopsy result and was told that she has osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her tibia. Jill’s treatment plan includes intensive chemotherapy requiring admission to hospital for close monitoring, radiation, and surgery, followed by more chemotherapy. We can only hope that they can reconstruct her tibia after the tumor is removed to save her leg. Devastating, mind-boggling, life-changing news.
